About Eyeshot, a progressive heavy rock/acoustic journey

Eyeshot originated in 2007 as the brainchild of Jim Smead 'Wookie'. Having spent the early parts of the musical journey in a classic rock style band followed by an acoustic rock style group, it was time to follow the music in my heart and mind.

I started playing guitar when I was 13-14 because music has always been a part of my life and the guitar was my instrument of choice. The high school band was my first step in getting to know my style, and influence. College presented a new vein of musical pursuit majoring in music, taking classical guitar lessons, playing in the jazz band, and finally finishing with a degree in audio production.

I also was a part in an acoustic rock style group in college which furthered my songwriting skills and expanded my influences. I took a love of bands such as Led Zeppelin, Dream Theater, Queen, Rush, Alice in Chains, Sevendust, Avenged Sevenfold, and Ozzy and combined it with a new appreciation for Dave Matthews, Matchbox 20, and Counting Crows. Creating a progressive heavy rock sound that could also be broken down to an acoustic sound.

In 2006-2007, while interning at Babblefish Studios in Franklin, OH, the first CD began to take shape and get recorded. Starting Eyeshot going into the studio as just a musical project, hiring a drummer actually led to it becoming a real band instead. That drummer, Red, and the soon after addition of bassist, Fish, took Eyeshot out to the bars and shows for the next 3 years. The best description I ever got for my music is being called the "DREAM THEATER OF HARD ROCK". I love that one, Dream Theater is one of my favorites, though I will never claim to be that good! Ha!

The music itself, combines my love of progressive style, heavy metal, classic rock, grunge, and acoustic style to create a progressive heavy rock/acoustic styling. Everything is written on my acoustic because it has to sound good there first just in case I have no band, but can still be heavy and rocked out when possible.

Though the group dissolved, I 'Wookie', keep it going daily currently as just an acoustic project, though getting Fish back in the studio for some full band recordings in the future is all part of my master plan.
